GCSE Foundation Maths: How To Achieve A Perfect 5

If you’re taking GCSE foundation maths, you will be wondering how to achieve that perfect 5 on your exam. What is the best approach to study? Which questions are going to be the most challenging? Where are you weaknesses?

Ofqual explains in their article on choosing the right tier:

The reformed GCSE maths qualifications are different to the old qualifications. They contain new, more demanding content, and have a greater focus on problem solving. So the relative demand of each tier has changed compared to the old qualifications; the bottom grade on the higher tier will be more demanding than in the old specifications, as will the top grade on the foundation tier.

So how do you approach this new, more demanding content? How do you ensure you understand the problem solving required?

Well the number one best approach to revising will always be working through past papers. These are the exact questions that have been asked, and your upcoming exam paper will have very similar content covering the same topics.

We have spent years creating video tutorials that explain step by step how to achieve a perfect mark on each question (with marks for both how you approach the problem as well as arriving at the correct answer!). Knowing the right steps for how to work through a problem is critical in order to achieve full marks for each question.

Creating Your GCSE Foundation Maths Learning Plan

Create your own learning plan with our topic-based content. Identify those topics that you find particularly challenging and add them to your learning plan to ensure you work through as many questions related to that topic as possible. Use our GCSE Maths video tutorials to see step by step how each problem is solved.

Then once you feel confident in those topics, take one of our past papers again and mark yourself against our completed papers. Each time you do this, you will end up with a smaller and smaller set of topics to focus on, until you are completely confident across all the topics and are ready to achieve a perfect 5 on your exam!
